Hunting

There is nothing like the call of the wild. More than 108,000 acres of public hunting land in Manhattan are free and open to licensed hunters during regular game seasons. Most Kansas land is privately owned, and owner permission is required before hunters may enter.
 

Fishing

With approximately 350,000 acres of standing and flowing water, Kansas is one of the best kept fishing secrets in the country. Please note anyone 16-74 years old must obtain a fishing license these can be obtained online or at any Kansas Department Wildlife Parks Office or from a licensed agent, find license locations. Find general boating regulations here. Manhattan area lakes are filled with, but not limited to:

  • Bass
  • Bluegill
  • Catfish
  • Crappie
  • Rainbow trout
  • Saugeye
  • Walleye
  • Wipers

Public hunting

200-acre marsh 7 miles north of Olsburg and 40-acre marsh approximately 2 miles north of Randolph on the east side of U.S. 77 are excellent duck hunting locations. Most area ponds and streams are privately owned; Kansas River is public domain and may be fished without permission.
 

Shooting ranges

Fancy Creek outdoor pistol range (10-20 meters) / Rifle range (50-100 meters); hunters sight in scope or target shoot (near Randolph).
