Bleeding Kansas Gravelduro
Third annual Gravelduro race Sept. 25, 2021 across rolling Flint Hills.
Bleeding Kansas presents a difficult challenge for bicycle racers who are already accustomed to pushing themselves to the limit. Hundreds of remote gravel roads await in the not-so-far-off Flint Hills. In minutes, steady traffic flows on Poyntz Avenue in Downtown Manhattan turn into isolated rides on challenging terrain in the rolling hills of eastern Kansas. The twist on Bleeding Kansas – a first of its kind series of downhills dashes – puts racers on the clock only for certain descents.
Rural roads mark the course, and coarse roads mark the terrain. One route stretches 100 miles of mostly open prairie paths, soaring to 1,500 feet above sea level with six dramatic drops, all timed, with the concluding downhill approaching 500-foot descent. Ride your first gravelduro and don’t look back!
