An installation by expedition geologist and artist Charles Lindsay, who directs the artist-in-residence program for SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). The installation will delve into earth's geological and cultural pasts, using scientific equipment salvaged from space exploration archaeology. Specimens and artifacts in Field Station 4 provoke musings on human perceptions of time and space.

This is a self-directed activity available for all ages, but especially aimed at teens. We have placed geocaches in public parks and trails around town for you to find. Each of our caches has a young adult book inside, free for the taking.
Read the library events page description for more information, and go to www.geocaching.com to find "Library Cache #" geocaches on the map. Event will be available from August to December 2020.

Craft Nights are back and we are so excited to be able to offer them again! Although we won't be able to meet in person, we will be able to meet on Zoom. Registration is required.
A week before the event date, you will receive an email with the Zoom link and we will let you know that we have your "Make and Take Craft Bags" ready to take home and how to come get them. The evening of the event, we will all log on, get instruction on how to do the craft, then do it all together!
This month we will be making Glass Gem Mason Jar Luminaries. These super easy jars are beautiful and will add instant ambiance to your home or patio,
To-Go Craft Bags will include:
1 Mason Jar
Glass Gems to cover jar
Battery operated mini fairy lights
Gorilla Glue sticks (for indoor or outdoor use) Specify Mini or Regular or none
What you will need
Glue Gun or other adhesive. If you want to use your Luminary outdoors, make sure you get an adhesive that is for outdoor use.

StoryWalk® Downtown starting at the Library. Take a walk with your children down Poyntz Ave. while reading pages from the book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and James Dean. The StoryWalk is available anytime as a self-directed activity. After completing the walk, you can visit the library sometime to pick out a sticker or button. Co-sponsored by Downtown Manhattan Inc.

Play Ball! Behind-the-scenes secrets of baseball, which gained American popularity on an amateur level nearly 200 years ago. You'll want to hop off the bench, grip a bat and belt one out of the park! There are multiple layers of involvement within the sport: player, manager/coach, umpire, scorekeeper or voracious fan. This exhibition contends with how each facet of the game is broken down into math and science.

Go on a StoryWalk Downtown, starting at the Library! Take a walk with your children down Poyntz Ave. and nearby streets while reading pages from the book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and James Dean.
After you read the book's first pages in the windows of the library, continue walking down Poyntz and look for the following pages in business windows. The StoryWalk is available anytime as a self-directed activity.
After completing the walk, you can visit the library or the Downtown Manhattan office for a small prize. Co-sponsored by Downtown Manhattan Inc. This StoryWalk will be available from September 1-30.
