    Best known for his depictions of Kansas, the American West also reveals itself as a significant subject in John Steuart Curry's work. Curry's earliest drawings reveal a boy under the spell of Western artists, e.g., Frederic Remington. Through 38 works, to include paintings and magazine illustrations, this exhibition explores Curry’s depictions of the West as a romantic and real environment.

    An installation by expedition geologist and artist Charles Lindsay, who directs the artist-in-residence program for SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). The installation will delve into earth's geological and cultural pasts, using scientific equipment salvaged from space exploration archaeology. Specimens and artifacts in Field Station 4 provoke musings on human perceptions of time and space.

  6. PolleNative: an MFA Exhibit by Dee Roof

    March 2, 2020 - March 6, 2020 @ Chapman Gallery, Willard Hall

    The Kansas State University Department of Art will present the exhibition, "PolleNative" by MFA Candidate Dee Roof from March 2 – March 6 in the Mark A. Chapman Gallery in Willard Hall, Kansas State University campus. A reception will be held from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2020 in the gallery. Events are free and open to the public.
    These events are presented and funded in part, by KSU SGA Fine Arts Fee.
    Dee Roof is originally from Philadelphia and received her BFA in Graphic Design from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University, where she was awarded the Graphic Design Faculty Award.

    Allana Parker, Riley County Historical Museum Curator of Design will present, “The Woman’s Reason: A History of Women’s Suffrage in Riley County, Kansas”
    . In this program, learn about the significant events, unique stories, and the influential woman who worked toward equal suffrage in Riley County, Kansas as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 2020.

    Teens 7th-12th Grade: Do you want to have your writing or artwork published in a short zine? We're starting a literary art zine! For our first year, each issue will have a seasonal theme. We'll accept any form of writing or art, including things like: poems, essays, comics, photography, scans of 2-d art, or photos of 30D art, or anything outside the box that you can create. The deadline to submit work for the summer issue is May 1, 2020. Submit digital files by emailing them to ya@mhklibrary.org.

  1. Ekdahl Lecture: David Fletcher, Founding principal at Fletcher Studio

    Davis Fletcher, founding principal at Fletcher Studio, is an Urban Designer and Landscape Architect. His research and writings address infrastructure, ecology and landscape urbanism. His practice ranges from strategic site design to regional planning, with an emphasis on performance and process. The firm is committed to a collaborative and contextual approach to spatial design practice, and to the design of performative landscapes, urban spaces, and living infrastructures.
    Fletcher Studio has been named finalist and winner in a number of recent international open space design and planning competitions. The firm recently won the Urban:Revision Dallas competition and place 2nd in "A New Infrastructure", sponsored by SCI_Arc. Current and recent work includes alternative transportation networks, green streets, public parks, reclamation projects, & waterfronts. David has taught at the Harvard Design School, SCI_Arc, Woodbury & Otis College, where he was the Asst. Chair of Architecture.
