    Best known for his depictions of Kansas, the American West also reveals itself as a significant subject in John Steuart Curry's work. Curry's earliest drawings reveal a boy under the spell of Western artists, e.g., Frederic Remington. Through 38 works, to include paintings and magazine illustrations, this exhibition explores Curry’s depictions of the West as a romantic and real environment.

    An installation by expedition geologist and artist Charles Lindsay, who directs the artist-in-residence program for SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). The installation will delve into earth's geological and cultural pasts, using scientific equipment salvaged from space exploration archaeology. Specimens and artifacts in Field Station 4 provoke musings on human perceptions of time and space.

    Find books for sale at bargain prices and support the Manhattan Public Library! Volunteers work year-round to gather and sort donated hardback books, paperbacks, children’s books, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs, and vinyl in order to put on this huge sale for the public. All of the money raised will be used to fund library programs and purchases such as new books, furniture, special events for children, and summer reading programs.

    Prairiewood Retreat & Preserve is a privately owned prairie preserve with almost 500 acres and several miles of walking trails.   1. Kansas Bowhunters Association

    February 28, 2020 - March 1, 2020 @ Four Points by Sheraton

    Join the KBA for their 2020 Convention Banquet & Fundraiser with like-minded bowhunters from across Kansas. You'll share stories, learn from experts, & celebrate bowhunting. If you have a passion for bowhunting or bowfishing you won’t want to miss this action packed weekend. All are welcome to attend. Workshops include Q&A with KDWP&T, DIY Western Hunting & Basic Bow Maintenance.
    Topping off the event is the Awards Banquet & Auction. The keynote speaker will be Jim Willems, current President of the Pope & Young Club. He resides in New Mexico & has hunted 8 countries on 4 continents. Jim was the first of only two non-residents to take the Colorado Big 9 with a bow, unguided with a bow.
    The evening concludes with the live auction and raffle. All funds raised support the KBA throughout the year. Don't forget to bring your entries for the photography, artwork, shed antlers, best pose of hunter with game, & taxidermy competition.

    Teens 7th-12th Grade: Do you want to have your writing or artwork published in a short zine? We're starting a literary art zine! For our first year, each issue will have a seasonal theme. We'll accept any form of writing or art, including things like: poems, essays, comics, photography, scans of 2-d art, or photos of 30D art, or anything outside the box that you can create. The deadline to submit work for the summer issue is May 1, 2020. Submit digital files by emailing them to ya@mhklibrary.org.
