  2. Voices: Art Linking Asia and the West

    One section of the Seaton Gallery will highlight the back-and-forth exchange of aesthetics and ideas between East and West through objects in the museum’s permanent collection, made by artists who traveled between the two regions.   5. Celebrating Heroes: American Mural Studies of 1930s & 1940s (Hirsch Collection)

    The '30s and '40s were a golden age for murals in America when the everyday worker rose to the status of hero. Murals celebrate the work of miners, farmers and other laborers and cover walls in public buildings across the country. Preliminary ideas played out in sketches and nearly 50of these are displayed in this exhibition. On loan from Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College.

    Participatory theater experience re-creates some of the conditions, struggles and dangers that fugitive slaves experienced as they navigated Kansas terrain and sought northern freedom. This experience places you in the footsteps of slaves desperate for freedom, allows you to meet anti- and pro-slavery characters and reflect on present impacts. Simple meal provided.     Support breast cancer research and run as teams, individuals or virtual participants. K-State Marching Band kicks off race; celebrate afterward at pink party on AJ’s patio. New custom medals go to top three age group finishers. 1-mile honor walk: Each participant receives pink carnation at finish. Portion of proceeds support Johnson Cancer Research Center.

    Wildcats conclude 15-outing spring practice session with new endeavor called Spring Showcase. Coach Chris Klieman's staff has taken Manhattan by storm with lively social media postings and rousing team messages. Klieman won four national titles at FCS North Dakota State and gets his first season in purple started on Aug. 31.
