Black Trail Riding Clubs have their roots in Creole culture formed in Southwest Louisiana in the eighteenth century. Trail rides are an opportunity for generations from rural parts of the state to gather and celebrate. These trail riders form a distinctive yet little known Louisiana subculture.Ariaz is a Great Bend product and associate professor of art at Louisiana State University who has captured these equestrian clubs in a series of photographs selected for this exhibition. The Charles de Gaulle Foundation and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation, strive to promote and honor the legacies of the great leaders. Together these institutions collaborated with the Musée de l’Armée (French Army Museum) to present this exhibition. With the generous support of The First Alliance Foundation, the exhibition will contribute to strengthen the bonds between France and the United States.

Best known for his depictions of Kansas, the American West also reveals itself as a significant subject in John Steuart Curry's work. Curry's earliest drawings reveal a boy under the spell of Western artists, e.g., Frederic Remington. Through 38 works, to include paintings and magazine illustrations, this exhibition explores Curry’s depictions of the West as a romantic and real environment.

An installation by expedition geologist and artist Charles Lindsay, who directs the artist-in-residence program for SETI (Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). The installation will delve into earth's geological and cultural pasts, using scientific equipment salvaged from space exploration archaeology. Specimens and artifacts in Field Station 4 provoke musings on human perceptions of time and space.

Each canvas will have the image predrawn in pencil on an 11" x 14" canvas. The instructor will start the children out with basic techniques then walk around and help the children individually while incorporating bits of art history/appreciation. The class will be taught by a K-State graduate with degrees in the visual arts who advocates for art education.
We'll provide a light snack for the children while they are listening to the story. Parents are welcome to stay or drop their child off.
Ages 6 - 12. Younger children are welcome, but we prefer an adult stay to assist the child.

Girls who are currently participating in the program are already registered for the 5K and will receive their 5K materials the morning of the event. For all other 5K participants (Running Buddies, coaches, family members and community participants), packet pick-up information is as follows: THURSDAY AND FRIDAY December 5th and December 6th 11AM-1PM OR 4PM-6PM at K-State Office Park, 1880 Kimball Avenue.
The 5K Course is flat and FUN! The Start and Finish will take place at the beautiful K-State Office Park with cool views of the K-State Football Stadium. The participants will be pumped by tunes along the course and cheer teams placed throughout. One water station will be available on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line. For safety, all furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day! All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.

We'll accept any form of writing or art, including things like: poems, essays, comics, photography, scans of 2-d art, or photos of 30D art, or anything outside the box that you can create.
