    One section of the Seaton Gallery will highlight the back-and-forth exchange of aesthetics and ideas between East and West through objects in the museum’s permanent collection, made by artists who traveled between the two regions. This project collaboration between curator Aileen June Wang and University of Kansas art history professors Sherry Fowler and Maki Kaneko.

  3. Jeremiah Ariaz: Louisiana Trail Riders

    2019 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print Artist introduces Jeremiah Ariaz. Black Trail Riding Clubs have their roots in Creole culture formed in Southwest Louisiana in the eighteenth century. Trail rides are an opportunity for generations from rural parts of the state to gather and celebrate. These trail riders form a distinctive yet little known Louisiana subculture.

    Ariaz is a Great Bend product and associate professor of art at Louisiana State University who has captured these equestrian clubs in a series of photographs selected for this exhibition. One image chosen as 2019 Friends of Beach Museum of Art Gift Print.

  4. De Gaulle/Eisenhower: Alliance & Friendship in War and Peace

    General de Gaulle and General Eisenhower both belong to the common national heritage of their respective countries. Their work is a source of reflection and inspiration for today’s world. The Charles de Gaulle Foundation and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation, strive to promote and honor the legacies of the great leaders. Together these institutions collaborated with the Musée de l’Armée (French Army Museum) to present this exhibition. With the generous support of The First Alliance Foundation, the exhibition will contribute to strengthen the bonds between France and the United States.

  5. John Steuart Curry: The Cowboy Within

    Best known for his depictions of Kansas, the American West also reveals itself as a significant subject in John Steuart Curry's work. Curry's earliest drawings reveal a boy under the spell of Western artists, e.g., Frederic Remington. Through 38 works, to include paintings and magazine illustrations, this exhibition explores Curry’s depictions of the West as a romantic and real environment.

  6. Incite MHK

    Incite MHK is an annual community-wide celebration of public art in Manhattan, Kansas. This year, the celebration runs from Oct. 27 - Nov. 2. For the inaugural celebration, Bicicleta Sem Freio will paint a large public mural in downtown Manhattan to be revealed on Nov. 2, 2019.
    Incite MHK is the brainchild of six community members with a passion for bringing Manhattan together through the arts. Through the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation’s Deihl Community Grants Program, the group was able to hire artists to paint a mural in town and inspire other events celebrating the arts in town. Event promotion is made possible by pro bono work from local strategic marketing agency 502. The group intends to make InciteMHK an annual celebration with different events every year.

The entire town has shown up to grieve the mysterious loss of the town eccentric, Suzanne VanCartier. Suzanne meant the world to everyone in the tri-county area, especially her six best friends: Beverly, Nancy, Carol Ann, Joanne, Roberta, and Dixie Mae who have all arrived (carrying a casserole) to pay tribute to their dear companion. As the friends reminisce about their dear friend, various truths come to light and strange things about Suzanne are revealed. Secrets unravel, promises are broken and right in the middle of the saddest of occasions, someone drops dead…from murder. Who dies? Who killed them? Why am I laughing so hard at a funeral?   3. BirdHouse Music Series: Ryanhood

    Cameron Hood's rich and folky lead vocals, Ryan Green's explosive guitar and mandolin riffs, and their airtight vocal harmonies prompted the Arizona Daily Star to call them, "a Match made in radio heaven." Ryanhood was recently named the "Discovery of the Year" by John Platt at WFUV New York City, and were a featured act at Australia's National Folk Festival in 2018. They currently reside in their hometown of Tucson, AZ, where they have won many Tucson Music Awards including "Best Folk Band" and "Best Rock Band" (you decide for yourself which is most accurate).

  1. SPICMACAY Fall Festival 2019

    The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth, known as SPICMACAY-KSU, will host the cultural event Fall Fest 2019 from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Purple Masque Theatre.
    At Fall Fest, we provide a professional platform to student artists to showcase their talent to the community.
    SPICMACAY-KSU invites the public to an evening filled with performances by four seasoned classical student artists in four uniquely different performances spanning from music to dance. Urmi Chakravarty will perform the Indian classical dance Kathak; Nandini Sarkar will perform the Indian classical dance Bharatnatyam; Amila Abeyesekera will play the cello; and Natasha Manjunath will sing a Carnatic vocal.
    SPICMACAY-KSU is a registered independent student organization. Drinks provided while supplies last.
