  3. Survivors of Human Trafficking: Personal Hygiene Donation Box

    K-State social work students have set up a donation box to collect personal hygiene products for Homestead Ministries Inc.
    Homestead is a safe haven for survivors of human trafficking, located right here in the Little Apple.
    The donation box will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday from Friday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 22 in 204 Waters Hall.

  7. 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's Completion: Big Boy no. 4014 Tour

    Union Pacific’s historic Big Boy steam locomotive No. 4014 is touring the Union Pacific system throughout 2019 to commemorate the transcontinental railroad's 150th anniversary.
    The Big Boy’s return to the rails is the product of more than two years of meticulous restoration work by the Union Pacific Steam Team. No. 4014 is the world's only operating Big Boy locomotive.
    Due to the dynamic nature of these operations, running times and scheduled stops are subject to change. The most accurate steam schedule information always will be located on this page.
    For the final time this year, the Big Boy No. 4014 will ride the rails on the Union Pacific system, taking it through Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Unless otherwise noted on the schedule, all stops are "viewing only" locations.

  10. Hy-Vee DIY Night: Thanksgiving Centerpieces

    Join for a Thanksgiving-themed craft nights! Guests will learn how to make a fresh Thanksgiving centerpiece from members of the Hy-Vee floral team. We will provide all the supplies needed to make either the "Grateful" arrangement (tall) from our Fall & Winter collection, or a customized, fall-colored low and long centerpiece.
    Attendees can bring their own drinks and snacks - beer and wine are a-ok! - or they can purchase drinks and snacks from the grocery store or the Market Grille Express.
    Tickets are $25 per person, with registration closing on November 19 to ensure we have enough materials for each attendee. Refunds will be granted until November 19; refunds requested after November 19 cannot be guaranteed as materials will have already been purchased.

  13. Kids Kanvas: Snoopy's Thanksgiving

    Each canvas will have the image predrawn in pencil on an 11" x 14" canvas. The instructor will start the children out with basic techniques then walk around and help the children individually while incorporating bits of art history/appreciation. The class will be taught by a K-State graduate with degrees in the visual arts who advocates for art education.
    We'll provide a light snack for the children while they are listening to the story. Parents are welcome to stay or drop their child off.
    Ages 6 - 12. Younger children are welcome, but we prefer an adult stay to assist the child.

To bring art opportunities to her rural area, Ginny organized painting workshops taught by professional artist.
    Art has continually been a source of joy for Ginny. Her award winning art can be seen in various location in Kansas and Colorado. Ginny's subject matter includes still life, floral, figure, landscapes and abstract. Mediums she uses include oil, watercolor, acrylic, collage, and mixed media.

  27. Santa's Luminary Trail at Sunset Zoo

    Join Sunset Zoo for a hometown holiday celebration! The event will feature a luminary walk, around a portion of our trails of Sunset Zoo. Come visit with Santa, participate in arts and crafts activities for the entire family, cookie decorating, storytelling, music, live animal encounters and more!
    We will have events both inside and outside Sunset Zoo. Hands-on activities will be inside our Nature Exploration Center and we will also have our Luminary Trail along portions of the Zoo.
    Each family will receive a copy of the book The Mitten by Jan Brett while supplies last.
    Friends of Sunset Zoo will be admitted to the event early each evening beginning at 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and general public admission will begin at 5:30 - 8 p.m. on both Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1.
