1918: The Great War and the Terrible Flu

Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Historian Jed Dunham will compress the complex and harrowing story of the great influenza outbreak of 1918 into a straightforward narrative using his own original research into the outbreak. Dunham will root this story in the local context, focusing on Nurse Battey and the Manhattan, KS fight against influenza.
Jed Dunham received his Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Kansas State University in 1996. He serves as Communications Director for S.A.V.E. Farm (Service member Agricultural Vocational Education) which is dedicated to helping transitioning veterans find purpose, education and employment within the agricultural industry. He developed the Kansas State Pandemic Team which utilized a multi-discipline approach to study the 1918 Influenza Pandemic which resulted in locating the source point for the 1918 pandemic and new avenues towards a universal flu vaccine.
