Humanities Kansas Book Talk: A Lost Lady
Thursday, May 23, 2019
Theme for Humanities Kansas book talk discussion series, "A Woman's Place." Books in this series reflect the state of dialogue in the 20th century. Each author looks at the way women develop personal strength of character while dealing with society's or loved ones' perceptions of what they should be.
Tensions between mothers and daughters, wives and husbands, career and family explored in these stories of women seeking to define themselves and their relationships. "A Lost Lady," Willa Cather: Stereotyped as a goddess, mother, friend, adulteress, glamorous Marian Forrester is an enigma to her young neighbor, Neil Herbert; a woman whose charm is mixed with terrifying vulnerability.
