K-State Students we are excited to have you in Manhattan whether this is your first semester or your last semester, welcome to Manhattan. You might be wondering what to do during your weekend between all of those study breaks. Here's your list of top ten things to do in Manhattan.
Hike the Konza. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or trying it out for the first time there is a trail out there for you. Take in the beautiful scenic Flint Hills on one of the Konza trails ranging in lengths from 2.6 to 6.2 miles long. This is a hiking only trail; no motorcycle, bicycles, ATV's or pets allowed.
2. Flint Hills Discovery Center
Grab a couple of friends and head to the Flint Hills Discovery Center to learn the science behind all the beauty in the Flint Hills. Their interactive displays are meant for people of all ages. Don't miss their rotating exhibit on the second floor. This is a great activity for those rainy weekend delays or any day.
3. Sunset Zoo
The Sunset Zoo has a unique history that ties in directly to K-State. Find more than 200 animals throughout the zoo. This is a perfect activity for those cooler afternoons. The Sunset Zoo celebrated two births this August, a new baby white-handed gibbon and a Caribbean flamingo. Feel free to pack your own water and snack for this outing.
4. Scenic Overlook
Hear us out, there is nothing better than a Flint Hills sunset and there is no better place to see it than the Scenic Overlook. Check the sunset time online and head out to the Scenic Overlook 30 minutes before then and watch the it set over the Konza Prairie. Here you can see for more than 20 miles out.
5. Mini golf
Find some competitive fun at Wildcat Fitness & Fun mini golf course. Their 18-hole beautifully-landscaped miniature golf course is a great place for a fun afternoon with friends. No pro golfers needed, this is something fun for everyone.
6. Visit Top of The World
Hikers, outdoor enthusiasts this one's for you! Top of the World and Washington Marlatt Memorial Park is a beautiful place to get an overlook of the westside of Manhattan. If you're not looking to take a hike, the Top of the World parking lot will give you an outstanding view of town as well.
7. Go for a Stroll in downtown Manhattan
Head to downtown3rd Street Artwork and take a stroll through the heart of Manhattan. Here you can see local shops, dining and attractions. Don't miss out on the that went in this summer. Manhattan's downtown is usually buzzing with activity.
8. Tuttle Creek Lake
We get it, your dorm room probably could not fit your water gear, but there is more to do at Tuttle Creek State Park than lake activities although those are some of our favorites. There are several trails for hiking, biking and even horseback riding, not to mention their disc golf course. There are fishing opportunities, archery and more all at Tuttle Creek Lake State Park.
9. Linear Trail
Linear Trail is a trail that spans from the west side of Manhattan to the Northeast Community Park measuring 9 miles in length. This trail is great for long distance runners or those on bicycles. This trail gives you a scenic view of Manhattan.
10. Wildwood Adventure Park
Soar through the skies and see Manhattan from the tree tops. This zipline takes you through seven breath-taking zips and a 40 foot fall to finish the challenge. This is the place to conquer some fears or get your adrenaline fix for all of those adventure junkies.
