Midwest Dream Car Collection adds to great Manhattan attraction

The combined power of the big screen and powerful muscle cars made a tour de force around America’s movie screens 22 years ago this spring. The Bandit and his four-wheeled muscle known as a Pontiac “Firebird” Trans Am flexed sex appeal measured in a 200-horsepower V8 engine. Bandit, aka Burt Reynolds, had raw magnetism and was the ultimate smart … ummm, aleck.

Reynolds’ good looks still merely shared the screen with the black Firebird and gold-bird decaled hood emblem. Burt was bad. That car was baaaaaad! Two years later and the 1979 Pontiac Firebird was produced in record numbers beyond 115,000. American muscle and many more vehicles will soon become another quality attraction for Manhattan guests, residents and visitors.

“There’s something for everybody to find interesting,” said Ward Morgan, Midwest Dream Car Collection’s visionary creator. “Visitors might remember one car from their childhood, or another they might have seen in a magazine.”

East MHK-bound and down!
That ’79 Trans Am SE is among more than five dozen automobiles in the Midwest Dream Car Collection at 3007 Anderson Avenue, bordered by Powercat Sports Grill and Genesis Health Club in the Plaza West shopping center. Four dozen autos will remain in regular rotation on The Collection’s showroom.

Muscle and more, so if antiques are more your passion then one half of The Collection comes from before 1960. Race cars, coupes – 1923 Ford Model T, 1929 Ford Model A, 1941 Willys Americar – modern top-of-the-line tech (compare ’10 Tesla Roadster Sport with ’19 Tesla Model X P100D, Midwest Dream Car Collection is an eclectic mix of U.S. and internationally-made vehicles.

“We’re really trying to make it be interactive, have people talk to you about the cars and tell you something unique about that vehicle,” Morgan says of The Collection’s overall aura and appeal.
