January means time for Big 12 hoops

Posted on January 2, 2018 at 11:13 AM by Michael Goens

Hoops for 2018! Both Kansas State basketball squads are off to winning starts to the 2017-18 basketball seasons. Anticipation builds for exciting Big 12 campaigns as each team bids for return engagements to the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats are mirror images as both teams feature plenty of new faces. The familiar faces have the men’s team off to an 11-3 start with a conference-opening win in Ames. So, too, the women’s team, which strung together an eight-win starting sprint fueled by junior guard Kayla Goth.

On New Year’s Day, the Wildcats initiate the men’s conference schedule in Bramlage. Bob Huggins’ crew with the West Virginia Mountaineers stops in for the 4 p.m. Jan. 1 start to pop the cork on 2018. K-State seeks revenge for an excruciating, one-point defeat in the 2017 Big 12 Conference tournament in KC, the teams' last meeting. Barry Brown, Xavier Sneed, Kamau Stokes and of course Dean Wade have had the Cats racing to a great start to the season.

Oklahoma State and Oklahoma come to MHK for mid-week, January games. The Big 12 features six ranked men's teams in the top 25. On Jan. 7, the Wildcats women's team takes on the Texas Longhorns followed by seven more home conference foes during the 50th season for K-State women’s basketball. Feb. 24 game against Kansas caps the season-long celebration, with 3 p.m. tip-off.

January means it's time to gather the gang for another exciting season of Big 12 basketball in Bramlage Coliseum. We Are One, the K-State Family. Go Cats!
