  2. Water Stories by Lynn Benson

    "Waterplaces" is a suite of 101 drawings on vellum paper. The exhibition will also present the artist’s 2018 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print, "Dancing on the Table." This work reflects Benson's interest in water sources that flow under ground such as the Ogallala Aquifer in parts of Western Kansas and surrounding states. Benson brings attention to this hidden natural treasure in a chine colle´ lithograph with gold leaf and coloring applied by hand.

  3. Here and Now: KSU Dept. of Art Faculty Exhibition

    Exhibition represents studio practices by 15 members of the K-State studio art faculty. These works have been made within the last two years and vary in concept and construction. The artwork features the disciplines of ceramics, drawing, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography, sculpture, and new media. Chad Alligood, chief curator of American art at Huntington Library (San Marino, Calif.), will serve as juror and announce award winners at the exhibition opening.

  4. Made by Hand: A Woman's Journey Expressed Through Fiber

    Made by Hand presents the work of two female fiber artists, Anita Luvera Mayer and Jennifer Schermerhorn, whose creative talents transform their media into creations that illuminate and express a wide range of emotions, portray a feminine identity and speak to women’s societal roles.

    K-State Historic Costume and Textile Museum and Manhattan Arts Center have collaborated for Made by Hand exhibition. Strecker Nelson West Gallery is the Gallery Season Sponsor.

  6. Made by Hand: A Woman's Journey Expressed Through Fiber

    “Made by Hand: A Woman’s Journey through Fiber” at the Manhattan Arts Center. The exhibition (April 7 - May 12) was curated by Marla Day, curator, K-State’s Historic Costume and Textile Museum in the Department of Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design. Mayer gifted her creations on display to K-State along with many others that have been showcased in Justin Hall and in campus galleries. Mayer creates garments by incorporating an incredible range of hand dyeing and embellishing techniques. Schermerhorn sculptures wool fibers into delicate figurative forms using felting needles.

    Exhibit uses items from university archives to illustrate the various events of that tumultuous year. From campus visits by Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy to the mysterious fire that destroyed Nichols Gym, the exhibit explores how national issues played out in Manhattan, alongside traditional university activities. Co-curators: Cliff Hight, Dan Ireton and Ellen Urton.
