    Traveling exhibition of richly colored prints the first solo exhibition of Norma Bassett Hall’s work since her death in 1957. Hall was the only female founding member of the Prairie Print Makers, Kansas-based organization established during Great Depression to promote American artists’ work.   2. Culture Mixmaster Zhang Hongtu

    September 25, 2018 - December 22, 2018 @ Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art

    Zhang Hongtu trained as an artist in Beijing, China, lived through the Cultural Revolution between 1966 and 1976, and emigrated to New York City in 1982. Having now lived as long in the United States as in China, Zhang produces works that embody his hybrid cultural roots. His knowledgeable mash-ups of Chinese and Western cultures are sometimes amusing and always thought-provoking.

  1. The Food Explorers and their Riley County Connections

    October 23, 2018, 9:00 AM - November 19, 2018, 9:00 PM @ Manhattan Public Library

    Riley County Historical Society/Museum exhibition highlights local connection to ground-breaking work in food exploration and food safety recounted in “The Food Explorer.” RCHS/Museum also offering driving tour, “Where the Adventure Began: Touring the Home Town of the Food Explorers,” which begins Nov. 7. Self-guided driving tour available at Rileycountyks.gov/museum.

    Visit locations connected to David Fairchild and Charles Marlatt, food explorers/innovators with connections to Manhattan/Riley County. Global Food Systems Initiative coordinates the effort.

  1. Manhattan Arts Center: Wrap It Up!

    Each year the exhibition and art sale includes dozens of participating artists. This event began in 1999 with the work of 35 artists on display. The intent was to showcase high-quality, affordable art for the gift-giving season. Wrap It Up has since expanded to include more than 80 regional artists with wide variety of work. Also, 35 percent of all sale proceeds benefit Manhattan Arts Center’s facility and programming.
