Big Love performed at Nichols Theatre - Feb. 10 - Feb. 13
Fifty brides flee to Italy in an effort to escape marrying their fifty cousins in this modern twist on a Greek play, “The Suppliant Women” by Aeschylus. Chaos arises when the grooms soon follow after. "Big Love" by Charles L. Mee examines the themes of gender politics and the search for true love. Be prepared to experience a grand wedding reception. “'Big Love'takes an ancient plot and updates it. In the process, he creates an explosively theatrical hybrid, the vaudevillian tragicomedy. It is, to say the least, a most improbable combination, but it works, gloriously.” - Dave Lohrey, Curtain Up

McCain: LadySmith Black Mambazo - Feb. 19
First brought to worldwide popularity through Paul Simon’s “Graceland” album, this 10 member Grammy-winning a cappella ensemble marries the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions to the sounds and sentiments of gospel music. The result is sheer joy! The ensemble borrows from a traditional music called isicathamiya (is-cot-a-ME-ya), which developed in the mines of South Africa, where black workers were taken by rail to work far away from their homes and families. When the miners returned to the homelands, this musical tradition returned with them.
After the Graceland recording, the group’s internationally recognized sound was further popularized by their award-winning Life Savers and 7UP commercials, the Lion King II soundtrack, and their many collaborations with such artists as Sir Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Josh Groban, and Phil Collins.
Recommended for the entire family!

Fourth Annual Women's Spiritual Conference: Those Feisty Women of the Gospel - Feb. 27
Women were there at every juncture of Jesus' life: from his conception to his resurrection. Of the 1,426 people given names in the Old Testament, only 111 are female. The proportion is twice as great in the New Testament. Over time, they may have been edited out of the gospels, or their roles diminished, so let us resurrect them. We can re-imagine their lives using an ancient Midrash technique. Then we will make the link to our lives: what do they teach us and our children?
