There’s a good reason MHK gets tagged with the free-spirited “Manhappenin” label. Lots of things to do, places to go, dynamic eating venues and a general sense of liveliness makes Manhappenin’ all that it can be. Entertainment-wise in February, Manhattan will definitely be happenin’ with dinner theater, music concerts, kids’ activities, educational opportunities, special events and college basketball. We’re talking a veritable feast of fervor that kicks into gear this week.
Of course, Valentine’s Day draws focus for romantic dinners, and Harry’s, 4 Olives, della Voce, Bourbon & Baker, Colbert's, le Suzette, Little Apple Brewery and many more offer fantastic venues to spend quality time with that special, devoted person. Manhattan has become the cuisine capital of Kansas, and MHK diners can fulfill fantastic foodie fantasies at Feb. 17 Taste of Colbert Hills, with menu tasting and vibrant music to scintillate the senses. Nearly a week later, Harry’s hosts a Presidents Day wine tasting (Feb. 23) as part of its SommSeries events. Learn how White House traditions started making wine part of state dinners.
On Feb. 16, Tower of Power resumes a great McCain Performance Series season with the sheer horn power called “Urban Soul” by one of its members. Two nights later at Purple Masque Theatre on KSU campus, Little Apple Smooth Jazz picks up the fevered tempo led by saxophonist JahVelle Rhone. Sandwiched between those high-pulsating events will be a night of curiosity with murder mystery dinner theater at Wareham Opera House, where a wedding-party murder (Til Death Do Us Part) threatens to crash the nuptials.
Also, both K-State basketball teams blast through Big 12 Conference play, and race up the floor with key games (men: Iowa State, Feb. 15; Oklahoma State, Feb. 22; women, Oklahoma, Feb. 21). Plus, Flint Hills Discovery Center Adventure Camps for kids in grades 3-6, and for adults the Feb. 16 Go See It! lecture, Clues of a Healthy Heart.
We’re 45 days into 2017 … time to make your travel plans and partake in all the fun that happens around Manhappenin’. Now’s the time; make your fun times happen, in Manhattan.
