Flint Hills

Grass stalks on the Konza Prairie
“I am not so sure but the prairies and plains, while less stunning at first sight, last longer, fill the aesthetic sense fuller, precede all the rest, and make North America's characteristic landscape."
-- Walt Whitman, 19th century American poet

Regional perspective

Activities are plentiful in the Kansas Flint Hills. This is where you'll last vestige of the Great Plains of the Midwest that still exists on the North American continent. Just 4 percent of the world's once-vast tallgrass prairie remains.

Flint Hills Discovery Center is a great place to start your visitor's expedition.
